There is a scene in the film "Moneyball" in which Oakland A's General Manager, Billy Beane, is attempting to convince a former catcher that his career could be revitalized by moving to 1st base by telling the player that the position is "incredibly easy." Beane looks to his coach for reinforcement, but he receives none as the coach tells the player that the position is actually "incredibly difficult."
I couldn't help thinking of ths scene as I traveled to India over the course of the past two days. Often, we romanticize the act of travel, when in reality, it is the destination we are considering, while the travel itself is incredibly difficult. So far, my journey has taken me from Cincinnati to Washington, DC to Frankfurt Germany, and finally to Bangalore India, a trip that has taken up the better part of two days. Already the differences in culture are apparent, from watching a German woman shout at a young server for not helping her despite standing in the wrong line at a Frankfurt coffee stand to the efficiency of German airlines and their queues as compared to the apparent disregard for creating lines amongst the South Asian travelers.
